Have You been Born Again?

Walking down Vanity Fair one day, I came to a door. Over the door I noticed words inscribed: “I AM THE DOOR, BY ME IF ANY MAN ENTER IN HE SHALL BE SAVED.” (John 10:9) Then I noticed words on the door posts: on one side words inscribed: “HE THAT BELIEVETH ON THE SON HAS EVERLASTING LIFE.” (John 3:31). On the other side the words: “WHOSEVER SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED.” (Acts 2:21) I said to myself that surely means me. I opened the door and entered, and as I did so I looked back and over the door I read: “CHOSEN IN CHRIST BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD.” (Ephesians 1:4). You were chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world, but God requires faith to make it real. If you are born again it was not because of some twist of fate, or roll of the dice, or just being lucky. You are a Christina today because of some very deliberate planning on God's part. That planning began before the creation of the world, and shall continue long after the word is dissolved.

How do you know you are saved? The Bible says: “The gift of god is eternal life through jesus CHRIST our lord.” (Romans 6:23) One can't earn a gift otherwise it becomes wages, The Bible says: “THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH.” (Romans 6:23)

You realized you were a sinner; “FOR ALL HAVE SINNED AND COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD.” (Romans 3:23)

You accepted the invitation that Jesus extends to you: “HIM THAT COMETH UNTO ME I WILL IN NO WISE CAST OUT.” (John 6:37) By faith, you received Jesus Christ as your personal Savior: “BUT AS MANY AS RECEIVED HIM, TO THEM GAVE HE THE POWER TO BECOME THE SONS OF GOD, EVEN TO THEM THAT BELIEVE ON HIS NAME.” (John 1:12)

Listen to the word of the beloved Apostle John: “THESE THINGS HAVE I WRITTEN UNTO YOU THAT BELIEVE ON THE NAME OF THE SON OF GOD THAT YOU MAY KNOW THAT YOU HAVE ETERNAL LIFE, AND THAT YOU BELIEVE ON THE NAME OF THE SON OF GOD.” (1 John 5:13) or listen to the words of the Apostle Paul: “WHO HAS SAVED US AND CALLED US WITH AN HOLY CALLING, NOT ACCORDING TO OUR WORKS, BUT ACCORDING TO HIS OWN PURPOSE AND GRACE, WHICH WAS GIVEN US IN Christ Jesus before the world began.” (2 Timothy 1:9)

HOW CAN YOU KNOW THAT THESE THINGS PERTAIN TO YOU?

  1. You obeyed the Word of God.” WHOSOEVER SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED.” (Romans 10:13).
  2. You believed the promises of God: “HE THAT HEARETH MY WORD, AND BELIEVETH ON HIM THAT SENT ME, HAS EVERLASTING LIFE, AND SHALL NOT COME INTO CONDEMNATION, BUT IS PASSED FROM DEATH TO LIFE.” (John 5:24)
  3. You rejoice in the witness of the Holy Spirit: “HIS SPIRIT BEARS WITNESS TO OUR SPIRIT THAT WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF GOD.” (Romans 8:16)
  4. You can bear witness to new life in Christ. You can say with the Apostle Paul: “I KNOW WHOM I HAVE BELIEVED, AND AM PERSUADED THAT HE IS ABLE TO KEEP THAT WHICH I HAVE COMMITTED UNTO HIM AGAINST THAT DAY.” (2 Timothy 1:12) If you can answer yes this is evidence that God has wrought a miracle of grace in your heart, and you have been born again. He has said: “YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN.” (John 3:7)
